17 Days to the Euro

May 22, 2012

With the Champions League Trophy firmly in Chelsea’s hands, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the sporting season is all but over. Luckily for you we’ve got a slew of other events happening this week – and we’re also just 17 days away from the Euro kick-off!

Cricket

The Indian Premier League champion will be determined on Sunday, May 27th. The Kolkata Knight Riders, who beat the Delhi Daredevils earlier today will go up against either the Mumbai Indians or the Chennai Super Kings. The Kings are the two-time reigning champions but head into tomorrow’s game ranked fourth.

Formula 1

The F1 boys roar into Monaco this weekend with the next Grand Prix on the racing calendar. Often called the most dangerous and risky track on the circuit, the Monaco GP will see Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel vying for a win. The Williams team will be looking to re-establish themselves after a fire marred their victory in Spain. Also racing: Bruno Senna, nephew of F1 legend Ayrton Senna.

Football

Pep Guardiola will lead Barcelona one last time in the Spanish Copa Del Rey final. Taking place on Friday, May 25th, the final will feature Athletic Club playing FC Barcelona at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in Madrid. No surprise that Messi’s team is the favourite to win.

It’s just 17 days until the Euro starts on June 8th in Poland and Ukraine. We’ve got lots of matches lined up already, and we also dug up this ultra cool UEFA 2012 Euro interactive match calendar.

Golf

The BMW PGA Championship takes place in England from May 24-27th. Luke Donald will be defending his title but will face a strong field which includes Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Nicolas Colsaerts. Over in Texas, the Crowne Plaza Invitational features Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner and Hunter Mahan.

Basketball

The NBA Championships are on the verge of completion. The San Antonio Spurs will play the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Western Conference final title starting Sunday, May 27th. On the East coast, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami and Indiana are all still in contention for a spot in the final.

Check back next week for our French Open picks – Nadal leads the pack, ofc.
